As a spirit imposes itself on flesh, stories have the power to impose themselves on us.

Updated: Sep 9, 2022

I wish to demonstrate the power of storytelling by sharing my experience. When I was younger, I was so active in voluntarism. After winning a poetry contest in 2008, I gained many fans in my community. I unified all other competitors in the field to work together and advocate social issues through poetry. Our reflective meetings gave birth to an organization. We created ITIAHaiti, the literary, socio-education, and cultural nonprofit organization I lead. Storytelling was done by having a weekly title that will be read and combined. Throughout the process, we learned that storytelling is like a play that represents everyday life on stage. Our main objective was to persuade community leaders and elected officials to assume responsibility.

Our lives are routinely shaped by stories, according to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Her love of exotic characters and her education made her believe that our family environment can be a great source of inspiration. We are impressionable and vulnerable in the face of a story, as she exposes in her speech. I understand that stories manifest in our chemistry to make us who we are. Storytelling can be dangerous because it can drive our imaginations and disconnect us from reality, as we are all aware. Our dreams can be filled with unexplored and fantasized worlds when immersed in them. I assume we are all exposed to others' stories throughout our lives that make us who we are. Since I am a Christian, I am influenced by bible stories, and Christianity makes us who we would not want to be. We are dehumanized, zombified, and focalized in a way that we cannot escape.

As a spirit imposes itself on flesh, stories have the power to impose themselves on us. Rather than being intelligent and active as a young man, I tried to find out what my family usually said about me. I was told something strange about myself often by my grandmother. My aunt put a piece of bread in my hand when I was born, and I immediately ate it. Since then, they assumed I had no complexity in eating food. My parents fed me everything grown-ups ate when I was a baby, and I grew up without allergies. Since I am hungry, my belief in being born strong gives me the strength to find every food as good. Effectively, my mom often argues that I do not know the taste in my mouth and will eat anything my wife gives me.

Changing systems through storytelling is a win, so I created a philosophical concept with a preponderant mission to build minds. ITIAHaiti aims to promote the clarity of literature that highlights, translates, and reflects all aspects of Haitian reality. In addition to advocating innovative poetry, it supports licit, teachable, and original writing. Let's say certain civilizations were dominated by imperialists using bible stories. So I believe we can use storytelling to inspire our costumes, traditions, costumes, and culture to gain people's attention. No aspect of society is off-limits to poets. As Adichie expresses her talent, our literary organization will allow any facet of society to be discussed without prejudice. The power of storytelling also reminds me of the one-word, one-action leadership philosophy I developed thanks to the Clinton School Program.

In addition to social networks, we discussed volunteering, youth involvement in organizations, and leadership. Our activities help them develop their self-esteem, creativity, and teamwork skills. Haitian youth in the diaspora, Creole education in Haitian schools, theater training, and poetry workshops are discussed. In our meetings, we promote contemporary quotes, organize song and drawing contests, and run open mic sessions. Besides advocating for a monolingual Haitian Creole dictionary, we are also working to develop business opportunities and engage in various socio-economic, political, and cultural dialogues. With our authority in the country today, it seems that none of these initiatives will move us in the right direction. A political party is created to help us get into the system.
