A recent incident highlighted this brutality when gang members burned a child alive, and tragically, the victim's mother died while crying for help from authorities, showcasing the lack of law enforcement support. This alarming trend raises critical questions about the country’s stability, especially as international actors exploit Haiti’s resources without addressing the pressing issues its people face. There are growing concerns about public service leaders' ability to combat rising violence and instability. Despite the challenges, it's essential to recognize the resilience of those advocating for justice. Collective action is urgently needed to amplify calls for meaningful change, aiming to restore hope and dignity for all Haitians.

Eliana Thelemaque is a 28-year-old Haitian woman who has faced significant challenges. Originally from Haiti, she lived in the Dominican Republic for several years, seeking a better future for herself and her children. However, her life took a dramatic turn when she was deported back to Haiti. During her perilous journey back, Eliana encountered dangerous gangs that threatened her safety and the well-being of her two-month-old child. These gangs demanded that she surrender her infant, intending to do harm, which filled Eliana with fear and despair. Surviving this ordeal speaks volumes about her strength and determination as a mother.

Eliana is also the proud mother of a seven-year-old daughter, who resides with her mother in the Latibonit department of Haiti. The bond between Eliana and her daughters is strong, as she works tirelessly to provide them with a safe and nurturing environment despite the hardships they face.
